Hello everyone!

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved to read…

She doesn’t remember what made her fall in love with reading – wouldn’t it be so nice to point to a specific book and say “This is the book that inspired a lifelong love of literature”? Alas, real life does not always work out so neatly.

She remembers that she hated when her parents read aloud to her and used silly voices, so she learned to read herself as soon as possible so she wouldn’t be subjected to it anymore. She remembers the first chapter book she finished by herself: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. She remembers the first time she finished a Magic Tree House book in a single sitting. But she doesn’t remember a time that she wasn’t a reader.

Unfortunately, this little girl seems to have peaked at the age of eight, when she discovered Harry Potter. This discovery would spark a love for a certain boy wizard and a magical school that has yet to fade and has, in fact, only grown stronger with time. Luckily for her, it would also deepen her love for literary worlds, resulting in her discovering more and more joy between the pages to which she escaped. Book after book fell to her insatiable hunger. She laughed; she cried; she experienced love and sorrow and loss and adventure.

Today, that little girl (now twenty years old) likes to pretend that her head isn’t as deep in the clouds of imaginary worlds as it used to be. Yet some part of her, no matter how much times passes, will always retain that childlike wonder and joy of cracking open a book and stepping into a new world.

Hi everyone! My name is Margaret, and I’m so excited to be starting out on this new blogging adventure! I’m an undergrad student studying creative writing and political science, native to Washington state, currently in Wisconsin for school. I’m starting this blog because of my sometimes overwhelming need to talk about books with people who understand. Even if that means shouting into the void of the internet.

I read a lot of fantasy, specifically YA fantasy. But I also like a lot of other genres! Some of my favorite books include:

  • Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling (well, obviously)
  • The Books of Bayern by Shannon Hale
  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
  • The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
  • Graceling by Kristin Cashore
  • Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness
  • Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Among many, many others. I read incessantly, as much as my busy life will allow (and probably more than I should), so you can pretty much guaranteed always find me discovering more books to add to the list. If you want to follow along, become my friend on Goodreads! I plan on posting on this blog at least once a week; for sure every Monday, but we’ll see what else we can squeeze in! Like I said, I devote more time than I should to reading and book-related things.

I’ll leave you for now with this picture of my bookshelves (which I miss very much while I’m at school) and a question: what’s your go-to genre when you’re not sure what to read? Feel free to introduce yourself – I’d love to meet you!
