New year, new me, amiright?
Okay, maybe not. I’m still the same old me, and I doubt that’s going to change with the switch from 2018 to 2019. Nonetheless, I have some goals when it comes to reading and blogging that I want to aim for. These are just nudges in the directions that I want to be moving, pushing myself to do a little more and get more done!
So here they are: my goals for 2019 in reading and blogging!
Reading Goals
Finish/catch up on five series
I have so many series to finish, and I’m hoping to knock quite a few out in 2019! Some of these include The Queen of the Tearling trilogy, The Diviners series, An Ember in the Ashes series, and His Dark Materials.
Read ten books on my Kindle
I keep accumulating ebooks on my Kindle – all of which I’m eager to read – but forgetting to get around to them. I think I have close to 30 now yikes. Hopefully I’ll put a good chunk in this in the next year! (Even if I probably add a lot more as well.)
Read three nonfiction books
I struggle with getting to nonfiction books, which is why this number is so low. But there are a few that I’m really interested in, so I’m sure that will motivate me to knock this goal off!
Bottoms of Goodreads categories
I posted about this challenge I created for myself here! Basically, my goal is to read some of the books from my TBR that I normally wouldn’t pick up first, by reading books from the “bottoms” of certain categories on Goodreads.
Reread on audio
I’ve though of a solution to my rereading problem! There are so many books I want to reread in 2019 but I don’t want that to take away from new books to read, so my goal is to (mostly) reread using audiobooks. This works well for me because sometimes I struggle following new books on audio, but with rereads I already know what’s going on. I’m limiting myself to five physical rereads for 2019.
Five books by authors from and set in countries I’ve never been
I want to be able to read more internationally in 2019! I found several books from my TBR that fall into this category, but I could always use recommendations! So if you know of any books set in countries other than the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, France, Italy, or Ireland, let me know!
Don’t buy books from Amazon
This isn’t exactly a reading goal per se, but it’s something I want to make more of an effort toward in 2019. I have real problems with the way Amazon monopolizes the book-selling industry and I want to be able to support more independent bookstores. Amazon book-buying ban, here I come!
Blogging Goals
(^ my true form)
Double number of followers
This is self-explanatory – I’d like to reach many more people in the new year!
Participate in readathons
Believe it or not, I’ve never actually participated in a proper readathon, but 2019 is the year to change that! Let me know if you have suggestions of any upcoming readathons!
Host a blogging event
Last summer I hosted Harry Potter Week, which was so much fun! I have a few ideas for 2019 events I want to host, so stay tuned. ๐
Post a discussion every month
I kind of slacked on writing discussion posts in the latter half of 2018, so I want to make more of an effort to post them more often!
Start requesting ARCs
I haven’t requested any ARCs from publishers because I’m scared they’ll say noย BUT there are so many 2019 releases that I’m looking forward to and I want to be able to help hype them up! So here I come, NetGalley – get ready for some requests!
Do you have any reading or blogging goals for the new year? Any suggestions for books from other countries that I should read?

omg yes! I’d love it if you hosted another blogging event and I would surely participate in it. I participated in Harry Potter week last โyear and it was a blast. I’d surely love to participate again this year.
And, all the best for your goals!

This is a wonderful list of goals! I love re-reading with audiobooks too cause I don’t feel like I’m “wasting” reading time on something I’ve read before. Good luck with all of these! ๐

I definitely feel you on slacking on discussion posts! I feel like I did that too but they’re always so much fun to write and I definitely want to write more in 2019. And aahh try not to feel too nervous about publishers saying no to ARC requests! There are always going to be publishers who say no or don’t reply, but one day you’ll get a yes and it’ll feel good โค

Great article and goals!
My goal for my blog is to try and write at least one new article every week.
My reading goals are to read more books that don’t have any adaptations before ones that already do. I tend to read those books first and I don’t want to miss out on any great books just because there isn’t a adaptation for them.
Also, try to read the books I already have before buying new ones. I’ve tried that goal before and I only lasted like a week last time, LoL. There’s just always a new book that I want to read, LoL.
I still have never read any of the Harry Potter books yet. One of these days. I did see Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway twice in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. So that’s kind of Harry Potter related, LoL.

Those are wonderful goals! I definitely struggle with reading the books I already own over shiny new ones ๐ And wow that’s so cool that you got to see Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway! ๐ฑ

Thanks =)! Yeah, the other day I was at the bookstore and I was totally like, “I’m just going to see what’s new and totally not buy any new books” and then there was a sale section where you could get 2 books for ten dollars and so there went that thought of not buying any more books for the moment, LoL. I got The Wife Between Us and Dark Matter. I just love getting books when they are on sale.
