Women’s History Month Readathon ANNOUNCEMENT

Hi all! Exciting news: this year in the month of March, I’m bringing back the Women’s History Month Readathon!

The Women’s History Month Readathon is a challenge that I started in 2019. It runs during the month of March, aka Women’s History Month, and is aimed at celebrating women’s stories.

How does it work?

The goal of the readathon is to read books written by women from March 1-31, 2020.

If you want to take part – hooray! I’ve created a set of challenges on this bingo board that can help push you to read a wide array of books. Whether you want to aim for a bingo or blackout or simply as many books as possible is entirely up to you.

The challenges:

* You CAN use the same book for multiple challenges *

• Book published before you were born
• Book by a trans author
• Book with “girl” or “woman” in the title
  • Or “girls” or “women.” We can be flexible here.
• Book with less than 1,000 ratings on Goodreads
  • You can find the number of ratings right under a book’s title on its Goodreads page.
  • 
  • Harry Potter definitely doesn’t qualify for this.
• Book with a woman of color on the cover
  • illustration or photo!
• Book with a female villain
  • use your own judgement to decide what counts as a villain
• Book with two or more female authors
  • can be a co-written book or an anthology with all-female contributors
• Book set over 100 years ago
  • that’s pre-1920, FYI
• A retelling
  • fairy tale, Shakespeare, classic lit – you choose!
• Book with a movie or TV adaptation
• A biography or memoir
• Book with a pink cover
• Book set outside your home country
• A debut novel
  • aka the first novel published by an author
• Book by an indigenous author
  • Native American, First Nations, Aboriginal, etc.
• Reread an old favorite

How to take part

The most important part of the readathon is READING. If you want to read based on my challenges, feel free! If you want to just read any and all books written by women, that’s also awesome!

A great way to participate is on Twitter. Go ahead and follow @whmreadathon for updates, reading sprints, prompts, etc. And post your progress, along with your bingo board as you fill it out! Make sure to use the hashtag #WHMReadathon.

I will also be doing themed blog posts throughout the month of March. This will include a brand new Women’s History Book Tag, which I will post at the beginning of the month so that anyone who wants to can also do it. I would love for you to link back to me on any blog posts you do for this readathon so that I can see them!
