I think anyone who’s a big reader can sympathize with the feeling of having an ever-growing TBR that regularly threatens to bury you underneath it. It’s our lot in life, I’m afraid. I’m in a constant state of thinking “why haven’t I read that book yet??” about at least a quarter of the books I see.
I was tagged by Marie @ drizzleandhurricanebooks and Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner (thank you both! ❤️), and look at me actually doing the posts I was tagged in for once! So here I am to willingly submit myself to public shame for the books I haven’t read.
The Rules:
- Thank the person who tagged you and link back to their post.
- Link to the creator’s blog in your post
- Answer the questions below
- Tag 10 others to take part in the tag
- Enjoy the tag!
A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read
The problem is that I usually forget who recommends books to me…so I have a lot of books on my TBR that are recommendations but I don’t know where they’re from. One book that’s been recommended a lot is…
The Secret History by Donna Tartt. My older brother has been telling me to read this for ages. Hopefully I won’t keep him waiting for too much longer.
A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t read it
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff has been on my TBR since July 2017 and…I still haven’t read it. I have every intention to do so and I actually think I’ll really enjoy it, based on what I’ve heard! I’m sure I’ll get to it eventually…
A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten around to finishing
There are so many possible answers to this question, it’s embarrassing. But I’ll just go with this one:
Five Dark Fates by Kendare Blake, the fourth and final book in the Three Dark Crowns series. I’ve already committed to this series by reading the first three books, and now I just need to finish it! Not gonna lie, I’m kinda terrified to find out how this series ends.
A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but have never actually read
I don’t know if Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is considered a classic, but it is old and I like the sound of it. Plenty of people with similar tastes to mine have really enjoyed it, so clearly I’ve got to pick it up.
A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black has taken the bookish internet by storm in the last few years, and I feel like I’m one of the only ones left who hasn’t read it. I only caved and added it to my TBR recently. It’s gonna happen, I promise! The only question is when…
A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but just haven’t picked up yet
I’ve never had a strong desire to read Little Women by Louisa May Alcott until I watched the 2019 adaptation a few weeks ago…and absolutely loved it. Now I really want to pick up the book!
A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet
Since I’m not on bookish Instagram, I’m just choosing a book that I’ve seen a lot on other social media (and it’s probably popular on Instagram because it has a pretty cover).
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson is not only gorgeous, but it sounds right up my alley, so clearly I need to read it soon.

Thank you for tagging me! 🙂 Illuminae is WONDERFUL – even though the final book was disappointing for me (I’m in the minority, though) I’d still recommend the series. The books are so unique and captivating. Rebecca is one of my favorites – it’s mix of mystery and gothic romance, and it’s so damn enjoyable. Didn’t love Sorcery of Thorns, but I agree – that cover is BEAUTIFUL. 🙂

You’re welcome! 😀 Yes, I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Illuminae, it needs to happen soon. And your description of Rebecca only makes me want to read it more!!

If it’s any consolation, I haven’t read The Cruel Prince either. Need to borrow it from the library and see if it hits my 😲😍”I NEED THIS BOOK SERIES IN MY WHOLE LIFE” button. It’s a real button. It’s all nice and shiny.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who hasn’t read it yet! Haha I completely understand that button 😉

Thank you for tagging me! This looks so fun, and like I’m gonna get to super roast myself, hahaha. I’m in the same boat as you with Five Dark Fates. I preordered it and everything, and it’s just been sitting on my shelf since then, collecting dust, scaring me half to death. A large part of it is because I just don’t want it to end, but I’m also terrified of how it’s going to end!

You’re welcome! 😀 Roasting yourself can be fun at times 😉 Yep, I’m definitely worried for the end of Five Dark Fates…I got it from the library right after it came out but returned it almost immediately because I wasn’t emotionally prepared 😬 Good luck to both of us!

Thanks for tagging me!! 🙂 I definitely recommend The Secret History, because it’s the OG dark academia. I also really need to read Little Women and watch the movie–the only adaptation I’ve seen is the musical 😬

You’re welcome! 😀 Yesss love that dark academia, and I definitely gotta read the OG. And omg I had no idea there was a Little Women musical…though that’s not surprising tbh 😂

Thank you for tagging me! There are some pretty mega books that I’ve never read so I can’t wait to submit myself for public shame by doing this tag! 😂
I’m also here to tell you that you need to read Illuminae – so far I’ve gotten 4 people to read it so I just need your help to make that number 5 😜 It’s basically my favourite sci-fi and I love the format, plot, and most of all the characters with all of my heart.
I want to read Little Women too, the new film looks really good!

Ahhh I gotta get on with read Illuminae so I can round out that number for you! It sounds sooo interesting and I really don’t know why I’ve put it off for so long. And the new Little Women IS amazing – I can’t wait to read the book as well!

Haha you dooo, feel free to scream at me about it when you get around to it! I buddy read it the first time and needed that emotional support 😂 (btw the audiobooks are incredible – totally recommended them along with the physical book!)
I’ve not read the classics since I was a kid but I think if I got back into them I’d start with Little Women!

Hi Margaret!
I really enjoyed reading the answers to your tag! I really liked the Illuminae series so I hope that you’ll eventually get to read this. I liked that the format is different than other books, this and the fast-paced plot really helped me get through each of the books in no time.
I also liked Rebecca as well! The Cruel Prince is also on my TBR. I actually haven’t read any Holly Black books yet (which is embarrassing!)

Thanks, Sophie! 🙂 I think I’ll really enjoy Illuminae when I (finally) get to it. And Rebecca as well! Don’t be embarrassed about not reading any Holly Black, because I haven’t either 😅

Ahh I’m so glad you did this tag, I loved your answers! ❤ I also heard a lot about The Secret History and a LOT of people have been recommending it to me, maybe I should give it a try someday! And YES to Sorcery of Thorns, it's another book I've seen all around and that cover is so beautiful. I hope to read it someday too 🙂

Thanks! 😀 Yep, I definitely want to get to The Secret History sooner rather than later. Same with Sorcery of Thorns! Good luck to both of us on that 😅
