The Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus Character Book Tag

Well, you heard it here first, folks: my transformation into a full-time Percy Jackson stan is well on its way to completion.

When I saw that this tag was being created, I knew immediately that I had to do it. Ever since hearing the news of the upcoming Percy Jackson adaptation on Disney+, my love for this series has had a massive resurgence and all I want to do is talk about it. So that’s what we’re doing today!

This tag was creating by the amazing May @ Forever and Everly, who also created the incredible graphics. Thank you, May! The work she put into making this tag astounds me. I was also tagged by Lauren @ Narrative Paradise, so thank you too!!

Okay, now let’s get into this tag! πŸ˜„πŸŒŠ

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

Reading this book honestly turned my entire mood around, right when I was getting really down about quarantine, and I rode that high for several days afterward. This is absolutely going to end up among my best books of the year, and I’m never going to stop recommending it.

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

For the first half or so of this book, I had no idea what was happening… but then things started to come together. Puzzle pieces that I never would have imagined fitting joined up perfectly, revealing a more beautiful story than I would have thought possible. I’m still amazed that Erin Morgenstern pulled it off so brilliantly.

The Weight of the Stars by K. Ancrum

I don’t see enough people talking about this book! Even though it wasn’t 100% perfect for me, it’s still found a way to stick with me even months later. K. Ancrum has such a unique writing and storytelling style; I need to read more of her work!

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Okay, by the time I picked this book up (or…downloaded the audiobook, rather), I didn’t actually think I would hate it, since by that point I had seen the movie. But I avoided reading this for years and years, thinking I wouldn’t like it. Surprise, surprise – I did!

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

I don’t talk about my love of Tolkien nearly enough on this blog. Even though it’s been a long time since I’ve read any of his books all the way through, picking any of them up and reading even just a chapter or two is always so comforting.

Summer of Salt by Katrina Leno

I adore everything about this book, but the relationship between the main character and her twin sister was one of my favorite aspects. Their dynamic at the heart of the story was absolutely lovely.

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater

I used to read entire books in one day all the time, but that doesn’t happen very often anymore. It certainly did with Call Down the Hawk, though. Nothing will beat staying up past 3 AM the day I got it, realizing how late it was, then sleeping for a few hours and getting up again to finish it.

Heartstopper by Alice Oseman

The positive reviews for this graphic novel are 100% DESERVED. I don’t think I’ve heard of anyone disliking this book (don’t burst my bubble if you have), and that’s the way it should be.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

I mean, for the sheer practicality of the fact that this book would last me a long time since it’s over 800 pages long… But also, I love it and would be happy to be stuck on an island with it!

(Side note: I’m SO excited to see Calypso in the new adaptation.)

Darius the Great Is Not Okay by Abid Khorram

This question was unexpectedly difficult?? Obviously I want every book I read to be 5 stars, but me to actually go into a book fully expecting it to be 5 stars, it has to have a lot going for it. But I think this one could be it? Lots of people whose book opinions I trust have loved it and I think (I hope!) that I will too.

First of all, this question is hilarious. Second of all…

Kind of a Big Deal by Shannon Hale

The fact that Shannon Hale has a new YA book coming out is, well, kind of a big deal. It’s been years since her last one and I could not be more excited to read this. I’ve literally been checking NetGalley and Edelweiss weekly to see if it’s available and emailed the publisher about getting an ARC. No luck as of yet. Thank goodness I only have to wait a few more months!

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

I wasn’t so much convinced to read this, but I don’t think I would have picked it up if it weren’t the pick for a book club that I help lead. Book club picks can be kinda hit or miss for me, but this was one that I loved!

In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan

If you’ve been following me for a while and still haven’t read In Other Lands, what are you doing?? This book is absolutely hilarious and you should go read it immediately. I actually think this is a perfect book for fans of Percy Jackson!

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

One of my all-time childhood faves! Every time I think about how amazing Ella Enchanted is, I get overwhelmed because it’s so amazing. Even though I’ve read it many times by now, I will never get tired of it.

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Morena-Garcia

I don’t read much horror, so I was terrified to get to the end of this book. Reading it at night was definitely a mistake. Thank goodness the ending was satisfying!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling

Controversial opinion time! I wouldn’t say that I love Cursed Child, but I certainly don’t hate it like many people do. Does it have plenty of problems? Definitely. Do I consider it canon? No. But would I protect Scorpius Malfoy and Albus Potter with my life? Without question.

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

There are very, very few books that I would punch. Most of the time, even if I don’t like a book, I can appreciate at least some part of it or what the author was trying to do. But this is a book that I wish I could erase from existence, or at least I wish I could scrub the memory of it from my mind.

This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

You can’t just throw lines like “I would rather break the world than lose you” and “I want to be a context for you, and you for me” and “At the end as at the start, and through all the in-betweens, I love you” and expect me to go on with my life!!

I know that this tag has been making the rounds among Percy Jackson fans, but if you’re a fan and you haven’t been tagged yet, consider this me tagging you!
