What time is it??
Well yes, almost, but more importantly… it’s time to talk about upcoming book releases!
Today I’m listing all of the book releases that I’m excited for in the coming months. We have some exciting releases to look forward to in June through September!
Of course, lots of release dates are changing at the moment (thanks, COVID). As of writing this post on May 27, all of these release dates are (as far as I know) correct, but they could change at any time. Fingers crossed that any changes aren’t too major!
Okay, now let’s into my list of 20+ anticipated book releases!
You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson
June 2
YA contemporary
This contemporary about a black girl trying to become prom queen in order to win a scholarship sounds so sweet and fun!
Burn by Patrick Ness
June 2
YA historical fantasy
Patrick Ness + dragons = I’m absolutely reading this book the second I can get my hands on it.
On These Magic Shores by Yamile Saied Méndez
June 9
MG contemporary fantasy
This middle grade book is about siblings and magic and…fairies? Yes please!
The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth
June 9
YA contemporary
I think we can all agree that this is going to be THE sapphic contemporary of the summer, right? I mean, that cover!
Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert (The Brown Sisters #2)
June 23
adult romance
I’m so excited for the sequel to Get a Life, Chloe Brown, which is all about Chloe’s quirky sister, Dani!
The Sullivan Sisters by Kathryn Ormsbee
June 23
YA mystery
Kathryn Ormsbee’s first book (Tash Hearts Tolstoy) was a 5 star, and her second book (The Great Unknowable End) was a 2.5 star, so I feel like this could really go either way! I’m curious and hopeful, though.
Love, Creekwood by Becky Albertalli
June 30
YA contemporary
The announcement for this novella was such a pleasant surprise! I can’t wait to return to the characters from Simon vs. and Leah on the Offbeat that I already love.
A Peculiar Peril by Jeff VanderMeer
July 7
YA fantasy
Jeff VanderMeer’s first YA book is all about alternate universes and secret societies; I fully expect it to be weird and amazing.
Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power
July 7
YA horror
I may not usually be much of a horror or mystery reader, but I was so impressed by Rory Power’s debut, Wilder Girls, that I just have to try this one out.
Unravel the Dusk by Elizabeth Lim (The Blood of Stars #2)
July 7
YA fantasy
I’m itching to read the sequel to Spin the Dawn, which I hope to love just as much as the first book. It feels like it’s been FOREVER.
A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor by Hank Green (An Absolutely Remarkable Thing #2)
July 7
adult urban sci-fi
Speaking of forever… It’s been 84 years… I NEED THIS BOOK NOW. This sequel to An Absolutely Remarkable Thing is definitely going to be a priority read the moment it comes out.
The Book of Dragons: An Anthology, edited by Jonathan Strahan
July 7
adult fantasy
All you need to tell me is “dragons” and “anthology” and I’m fully on board.
Loveless by Alice Oseman
July 9
YA contemporary
HI DO YOU HAVE TIME TO TALK ABOUT OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, THIS BOOK?? Yes, I haven’t even read it yet and already I can tell I’m going to love it. This is probably my #1 anticipated release of the year!
The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune
July 14
YA fantasy
After loving TJ Klune’s last book, The House in the Cerulean Sea, I knew I had to pick up his YA debut, which is all about superheroes!
Axiom’s End by Lindsay Ellis
July 21
adult science fiction
This book sounds like it very much has An Absolutely Remarkable Thing vibes, and plus the author is someone I admire on Youtube…so I’m in!
I Kissed Alice by Anna Birch
July 28
YA contemporary
Secret identities + webcomics + rivals to lovers! This contemporary sounds right up my alley and I can’t wait to read it.
The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson
August 4
adult sci-fi
What can I say? I see alternate dimensions in a book description, I add it to my TBR. I’m a simple girl with simple needs.
Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (The Locked Tomb #2)
August 4
adult science fantasy
I cannot wait to read the sequel to Gideon the Ninth! If it’s anything like the first book, it’s going to be fantastic.
Kind of a Big Deal by Shannon Hale
August 25
YA fantasy
Shannon Hale has a new YA book and I’M SO EXCITED!!! Not only is this just straight up amazing news, but this book – all about a girl who keeps getting dropped into the books she’s reading – sounds incredible.
Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger
August 25
YA fantasy
A queer, ghostly, magical realism murder mystery by an Indigenous author? Yes please!
Iron Heart by Nina Varela (Crier’s War #2)
September 8
YA fantasy
Thank goodness we don’t have to wait much longer for the sequel to Crier’s War! LOOK at that COVER.
Watch Over Me by Nina LaCour
September 15
YA contemporary
This is one that I’ve read already and I CANNOT WAIT for you all to read it too. Nina LaCour truly does it again. I rated this 4.5 stars and should have a review out soonish! (Also hey, two Ninas in a row!)
The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi (The Gilded Wolves #2)
September 22
YA historical fantasy
The long wait for the sequel to The Gilded Wolves is almost over! Even though I’m definitely going to have to reread parts of the first book to refresh myself, I’m very excited to read this one.
A Neon Darkness by Lauren Shippen (The Bright Sessions #2)
September 29
YA urban sci-fi
If you haven’t jumped on the Bright Sessions train already, you still have time to listen to the podcast and read The Infinite Noise before this book (which I rated 4.5 stars) comes out! Though technically you don’t have to in order to read this. But you should because they’re amazing!!
What book releases are you excited for in the next few months? Let me know about any that aren’t on this list!
x Margaret
Thanks so much for all of these! I had a lot of them on my TBR already, but there were definitely a few that I didn’t know existed that I really want to read now 🙂
